Background

Rochdale Inter-Agency Domestic Violence Forum was established in 1995 with a membership of just five people. The forum is made up of many local agencies who have an interest in the issue of domestic violence and now has a membership of over 15 agencies. The Forum meets on a quarterly basis and provides the opportunity for member organisations to become informed of the work of the Forum/Women's Centre, and also to exchange information on best practice within their own organisation.

The Forum’s aims are to enable agencies within the Borough of Rochdale to provide a co-ordinated and collaborative approach to domestic violence by:

  1. Promoting the public services which offer relief and support to people who have suffered or are in danger of suffering violence from perpetrators known to them.

  2. Advancing the education of the causes and prevention of domestic violence to the general public and voluntary and statutory agencies.

The Forum has been established for in excess of 15 years and hosts a domestic violence project, comprising of:

  1. A Domestic Violence Co-ordinator

  2. A Deputy Co-ordinator

  3. A team of specially trained domestic abuse outreach workers

  4. Volunteers with community languages

  5. A counselling service provided by trainee counsellors
